Contaminated Sites Remediation Conference – Clean Up 09

Staff members from 360 Environmental’s contaminated sites management team attended the 3rd International Contaminated Site Remediation Conference - Clean Up 09, held in Adelaide recently.

The objectives of Clean Up 09 were to bring together leading scientists, industrialists, and regulators from around the world to explore emerging issues related to the assessment and remediation of contaminated sites, to speed up technology transfer and exchange information on innovative developments in fundamental and applied environmental research. Presentation topics included:

  • Reviews of the current contamination situation in Australia, the US, Europe and Asia
  • Emerging risks posed by nanopollution and new chemicals
  • Toxic threats to indoor air
  • The mounting problem of e-waste (electronic waste)
  • Potential risks from chemical warfare agents and nanopollutants
  • New uses for old pollutants: turning industrial waste into safe, useful materials
  • Risks from urban landfills and urban radioactive dumps
  • ‘Green chemistry’ and new ways to clean up our communities and environment.

The last day of the conference included a technical tour of several contaminated sites currently being remediated using various technologies.
