Environmental and Quarantine Management - Holcim

Holcim

Holcim is one of the world’s leading suppliers of cement and aggregates (crushed stone, sand and gravel). In 2009 Holcim was awarded the Supply of Concrete Contract for the Gorgon Project on Barrow Island.

Barrow Island is located in the Pilbara/Cape Range region of Western Australia and is classified as an A Class Nature Reserve. 360 Environmental Pty Ltd has been providing Holcim assistance in the planning and management of quarantine and environmental aspects relevant to the Supply of Concrete Contract.

The objectives of the work have been to assist Holcim to conduct its operations on Barrow Island in an environmentally appropriate manner and to support supply operations departing from mainland Australia. This is necessary to enable Holcim to meet its contractual agreements with Chevron and the Kellogg Joint Venture (KJV).

Environmental and Quarantine Management

As part of the concrete contract quarantine requirements, 360 Environmental has provided the following Quarantine support to Holcim:

Authorship of quarantine management documentation (plans and procedures) for the supply of materials and personnel to Barrow Island. This includes documentation to support mainland supply options for sand and aggregate.
On-site preliminary assessment of quarries to provide sand and aggregate to BWI.
General project support to Holcim (e.g. advice on logistics and risk).
Development and delivering of contract specific quarantine training for Holcim staff, subcontractors and suppliers.
Provision of a Quarantine Coordinator at the Holcim laydown facility.

As part of environmental requirements, 360 Environmental has provided the following support to Holcim:

Authorship of environmental management documentation (plans, procedures, training modules and toolboxes) for the supply of materials and personnel to Barrow Island.
General environmental project support and advice to Holcim.
Provision of an Environmental Site Environmental Coordinator.

Outcomes

Working closely with the Client, 360 Environmental has played an integral support role to ensure the environmental and quarantine requirements have been achieved to meet the needs of the project.
