360 Environmental can provide expertise in the following areas:
-
Project environmental management (overall responsibility for an entire environmental assessment or responsibility for the fauna component of a segmented project);
-
Fauna surveys and monitoring including:
-
Desktop surveys and project based risk assessments to determine the need for field based surveys
-
Surveys for terrestrial vertebrate and invertebrate species including short range endemics;
-
Marine vertebrate surveys including onshore components (e.g. marine turtles) and offshore components (e.g. marine mammals);
-
Targeted surveys for threatened species (e.g. black cockatoos);
-
Long term population monitoring;
-
Translocation of vertebrates;
-
Provision of legislative, approvals and assessment advice under the Federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and relevant state acts and regulations (e.g. the Western Australian Wildlife Conservation Act 1950 and Environment Protection Act 1986),
-
Project wide environmental risk assessment;
-
Preparation of fauna management plans for specific species or project wide; and
-
Peer review of technical fauna studies.
KEY RECENT PROJECTS HAVE INCLUDED:
Southern Seawater Desalination Project - 2007 Terrestrial Flora and Fauna Survey
360 Environmental to conducted flora and fauna investigations on the site of the planned Southern Seawater Desalination Project including 30km of pipeline easement required to allow the installation of integration assets. The fauna survey included:
-
A Level 2 fauna survey in accordance with Western Australia’s Environmental Protection Authority’s (EPA’s) Guidance Note for the Assessment of Environmental Factors for Terrestrial Fauna Surveys for Environmental Impact Assessment in Western Australia No. 56;
-
A targeted survey for the western ringtail possum;
-
A targeted survey for black cockatoos;
-
A short range endemic fauna survey;
-
Assessment of the status of introduced and feral animals; Assessment of the relationships between vertebrate fauna and the vegetation types of the site in order to clearly identify any habitats of faunal significance;
-
Provision of management recommendations for Water Corporation’s consideration and for incorporating into management plans and environmental approval documentation; and
-
Assessment of the regional and local conservation status of the site (both at the species and ecosystem levels) and the potential role of the site as a contributor to ecological linkage/ s in the region.
AngloGold Ashanti Tropicana Project
360 Environmental has provided expert advice and technical support to AngloGold Ashanti Australia (AGAA) for their mining and exploration activities in the Eastern Goldfields. We have provided advice on approval strategies and schedules, assisted in the referral of mining, exploration and ancillary activities to the EPA and the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA). 360 Environmental and AGAA have co-produced a specific management plan for the endangered southern marsupial mole and a general fauna management plan of priority species and federally and state listed threatened species.
Water Main from Stirling Trunk Main to North Mandurah Tank Project
A level 2 fauna survey was undertaken for the Pipeline and Pump Station Partnership pipeline, Mandurah. The key components of the work undertaken by 360 Environmental included
- A desktop survey of fauna species recorded in the City of Mandurah;
- A Level 2 fauna survey in accordance with the EPA’s Guidance
Statement No. 56;
- A terrestrial fauna sampling program consisting of trapping and hand foraging for vertebrate and invertebrate fauna;
- A targeted survey for suitable breeding and feeding habitat for black cockatoos along the alignment;
- The production of an inventory of fauna species present or potentially occurring along the alignment based on a field survey and a literature review; and
- An assessment of the regional and local conservation value of rare, threatened and vulnerable species that could occur in the survey area.
Byford Subdivision – Terrestrial Vertebrate Survey
360 Environmental undertook a spring flora and fauna survey for native mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and examined the site for its potential to support short range endemic invertebrates. The survey identified the presence of Carnaby’s cockatoo and the red-tailed black cockatoo and provided recommendations on retaining important feeding habitat.
Ravenswood to North Dandalup Pipeline
360 Environmental undertook a due diligence flora and fauna survey to determine fauna of conservation significance that occur on the site and locations of any significant remnants of fauna habitat.
Mandurah Bypass Fauna Survey
360 Environmental to undertook a visual fauna assessment of the proposed pipeline route for the Mandurah Bypass project. The survey provided an inventory of vertebrate fauna species present or potentially occurring in the survey area, recommendations on best-practice management techniques to minimise impacts on native and protected fauna and identified fauna that may occur along the proposed pipeline route and are listed in state or federal acts.
Harvey – Stirling Redevelopment Scheme – Western Ringtail Possum
360 Environmental undertook a western ringtail possum survey and prepare a management strategy and recovery plan for the Harvey Stirling Redevelopment Scheme. |
